Workshop continues on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm
Cost: $800.00 Installment option available upon request.
This class is not for beginners, some experiences required.
During this 3-day intensive workshop, Shane Wolf will demonstrate and teach his approach to drawing the nude with the traditional Trois Crayons technique (charcoal, sanguine, and chalk). Popularised by Peter Paul Rubens and widely used throughout Europe in the 18th century, the Trois Crayons technique allows for a vivid and efficient expression of the human figure.
Students of this workshop will do a lot of gestural drawing with the trois crayons, as well as have several long poses of 3 hours or more in order to develop greater depth of form with the technique.
The workshop begins with a regular 6-hour class followed by a full 3-hour, evening demonstration where Shane will show his step-by-step approach to creating a figure drawing from the nude model using the technique. Students will be able to ask questions during the entire demo. The students will then have 2 more days for instructed class time.
Drawing supplies:
-sketch pad or journal for taking notes and for quick pose sketching
-at least 12 full sheets of Canson Mi-Teintes paper (65x50cm) of a mid-tone value (i.e. Lichen, Gris Perle, Chanvre Clair, Tulipe, Orchid, etc… something on which white chalk will be visible; the sheets can be all the same color, or different colors, though my personal recommendation would be to try at least a few different colors)
-white chalk pencils (I like General’s white chalk pencils; I usually have at least 4 ready as I work)
-2 - 4 white chalk pastel sticks (I also use General's white chalk sticks)
-2 sanguine pencils (I like Conté’s number 610 sanguine pencils, but any of their sanguine shades would be fine)
-2 - 4 sanguine pastel sticks (I use General's pastel sticks; any sanguine hue would be fine)
-Nitram charcoal (I mostly use their bâton moyens and bâtons épais)
-2 - 4 General's HB charcoal pencils
-2 kneaded erasers
-tape or clamps for your paper
-a drawing board large enough for a full sheet of Canson paper
-something to sharpen your pencils (i.e. pencil sharpener, exacto knife and sand pad, lead pointer, etc)
-a small, handheld mirror
-a chamois cloth or soft cotton cloth
-several small makeup sponges (the wedge kind without any kind of added oils or vitamins)
-a cheap bristle brush, about 2cm wide (filbert or flat)
-spray fixative for those who want to fix their drawings (optional)
