Join us for an exceptional introductory class on gesture drawing, taught by Pixar Lead Animator John CC Lee. In this course, students will learn to observe the human body and practice capturing what they see through drawing. The primary focus will be on mastering techniques that convey the action of a pose quickly and effectively. Participants will work with live clothed models while exploring concepts of proportion and basic anatomy.

The instructor will demonstrate how to use art materials in a wide variety of methods and themes. Not only we will explore color theory, design principle, shading techniques and such, we will also discus sculpture, architecture, graphic design and art history. Students will work on a final project of their choice.

During this 10-week course students will learn the principles of 2D animation. We will explore the roots of traditional animation using modern digital tool - Procreate Dreams on iPad. Students will be guided through exercises and have time to explore the techniques on their own. We will begin with the principles of animation, move on to more physical explorations of movement then emotion - all with an emphasis on drawing skills. Topics cover includes but not limited to: Squash and stretch, anticipation, timing, follow through and exaggeration etc.

Drawing is an ongoing practice! This class is perfect for teens looking to develop and advance their foundation drawing skills. The instructor will discuss compositions, positive/negative shapes, design, perspective, proportion, high key/low key and portrait drawing. Students will use their observational skills and gain familiarity with various drawing media such as graphite, charcoal pencils, white charcoal pencils, charcoal sticks and liquid charcoal. They will work on different drawing exercises that include but not limited to master copy, cast drawing, gesture drawings, value studies, blind contours, cross/contour drawings, and cross-hatching. The instructor, Daniel Segrove will work closely with students in class, provides individual guidance, demonstrations, and lectures. All levels welcome.

Working with still life, we will explore rendering and shading techniques, including contour drawing, gesture drawing, cross-hatching and stippling. We will also discuss perspective, proportion and learn how to put these concepts to use.

Students will create their own versions of human and animal characters using traditional mediums. This class is taught by Pixar Directing Animator John CC Lee. Discover what it takes to create an animated short film!  During this intense 3-day bootcamp, students will begin with the basics of animation principles, character design, character development, learn about the art of storyboarding then create a short film that they're proud of.  We will be working traditionally with pencil and paper then finish their project on Procreate.  Students will be learning and familiarizing themself with industry terminologies, techniques and implementing specific tools on Procreate.  This class is intended for students interested in learning the process of animation.  Students will be given homework to practice.

This is a technical class with an emphasis on increasing accurate, effective 2D reproduction. We will do so by mapping out efficient ways to set up a drawing, as well as the necessary beginner knowledge of linear perspective, light/shadow, and how we can represent them 2 dimensionally.

Recommend taking Observational Drawing Class prior to this course.

6 weeks of fantasy creatures and monsters! In this course, we will have fun drawing all kinds of monsters and fairies, from mythical creatures to bizarre animals found in nature, and everything in between. We will exercise our creative muscles with prompts to help us think outside the box. We will practice working with peers to brainstorm and collaborate on creative ideas. And we will learn about how to use inspiration from a variety of sources to create new ideas for creatures that are unique! Some basic drawing skills are needed. Students should feel comfortable replicating basic shapes, know their colors, and be able to follow step-by-step instructions.

The students will learn techniques in color-matching, layering, blending, and building texture.
Colored pencil is one of the most diverse and fun art media which can be used in adjunct to almost every other media on the market. It is accessible to everyone, no matter the skill level. This class will illustrate how to use colored pencils in a wide variety of methods and themes ranging from birds to leaves to feathers to flowers! All levels welcome.

Taught by professional artist and video editor Duncan Robson, in this Stop-Motion Animation Camp, students will create short animated films through unconventional materials to make characters that will tell a unique and creative story. Campers will learn the basic elements of animation, storyboarding, character/set design, lighting and gain collaborative skills. Once the filming is complete, we will learn how to edit and add sound effects. By the end of the camp everyone will leave the class with a finished film that they can be proud of!

This class will prepare students for creating an art portfolio leading to art school/college admission. We work with students individually based on their personalities, interests, preferences, and the art majors they are pursuing. Our art instructor will assist students in planning their own art pieces, provide technical skill training and constructive critiques that will help them to create pieces that is well aligned with the student's original theme.
